Virtual Servers and Applications
Virtualization is emerging as a key technology enabling successful, cost-effective server deployment. Coyote Point was a pioneer in load balancing, application delivery and application acceleration technology for real servers and again leads the pack by offering low cost solutions for enhancing load balancing virtual servers.
Virtualization has firmly established itself as a significant technology changing the way IT manages everything from cost to application deployment to green computing and storage. Maintaining application uptime as applications are delivered via a reduced number of "real servers" requires visibility into the health of the virtualized processing environment. Equalizer guarantees application availability and improves application response times in a virtual server environment by intelligently distributing load across the virtual server machines based on real time server availability and performance.
Equalizer Delivers:
- Automatic Monitoring of Server Load and Availability
- Increased Productivity by Routing Traffic to the Fastest Responding Servers
- Redundant High Availability (HA) Configuration Options
Equalizer VLBTM and VMware Servers
Coyote Point has taken load balancing VMware infrastructures® to the next level with Equalizer VLB - virtual load balancing technology. This software enabled application delivery capability is optimized for VMware infrastructures®. Equalizer VLB runs on the E350si, E450si, E550si and is shipping as a standard feature of the E650si.
Coyote Point Equalizers with VLB configured monitor VMware VirtualCenter or ESX server (VMware infrastructure) to determine virtual machine status. Combining our proven expertise, awareness of application availability and server traffic trends with VMware's ability to monitor the VMware servers and physical resource utilization allows higher application performance and availability to be achieved compared to load balancing and virtualization working independently.
The Coyote Point Equalizer VLB capability that combines the VMware knowledge to make better overall traffic management decisions for several virtual servers. Equalizer extracts information provided to it by the VMware API to load balance virtual machines with enhanced knowledge of the Virtual Machine's internal state. Improved plotting in the Equalizer GUI allows these new load balancing methods to be easily monitored.
Equalizer's performance monitoring capabilities are designed to analyze and understand the HTTP or HTTPS application environment in ways that less sophisticated systems cannot. For example, a Web application server running a large report may compromise the CPU performance of a Virtual Machine. Utilizing VMware's management API, Equalizer retrieves the real-time virtual server memory and CPU utilization performance information. Using all available information to adjust traffic loads optimally, traffic is routed to the best available virtual server to guarantee that overloaded virtual servers, like the one in this example, do not receive additional traffic until they are able to process it effectively.

Superior Application Delivery in a Virtual Word
Equalizer guarantees the uptime of applications delivered by virtual servers and real servers alike. This provides a comprehensive load balancing and application acceleration solution for today's organizations that require 100% application availability. Advanced solutions like redundancy, business continuity and application acceleration can also be addressed in a virtual infrastructure by proven Equalizer functionality.
IT business leaders can now ensure optimum use of virtual hardware resources by effectively managing the distribution of work across physical resources. Hot spots and the need to overprovision to handle load spikes are eliminated. The fiscal impact is both in reducing capital expenses (fewer servers) as well as reducing operational expenses (power, cooling, and management). Combine this with the highest application availability, improved application response times and you have a complete solution that enhances the success of a virtual server environment.
