Web-based Communications tools like Outlook Web Access (OWA) are mission-critical in today's business environments. Equalizer solves the challenges of providing non-stop availability and scalability by using intelligent traffic management and load balancing to distribute work among multiple servers. Outages are inevitable whether they are scheduled or not, and IT staff need not be on hand to replace one server with another working server because of our automatic failure detection of servers in an E-mail serving cluster. Equalizer uses Active Content Verification (ACV) to go beyond the basic health checks done on server health to actually test to see if the OWA applications running on the servers can support the user community. When a failure is detected traffic reroutes automatically without administrator intervention. Finally, no more maintenance schedules on weekends, no more calls at midnight for from frustrated users. Individual servers can be automatically or manually taken in an out of the clusters without impacting application availability to the user population.
To guarantee even higher levels of availability the Equalizer appliance can be configured in a High-Availability configuration with a redundant Equalizer appliance as a backup in hot standby. This ensures users are never impacted by unavailable network resources including individual server outages, application failures or even the unlikely loss of the Equalizer itself.
